![]() ![]() The 700-fill down quilt snaps to the perimeter of the top sheet and has a nice foot box to toss the feet in on cold nights. The sheet’s mesh side-walls prevent moisture or condensation from leaching up onto the pad. A single cord keeps the sheet secured around the pad’s midsection. The top sheet wraps snugly around the pad much like the top sheet you use at home on your bed. But it’s a necessary process it would take too long and too much lung power to inflate the pad otherwise. In the woods, this proved to be a little more laborious. Inflating the pad looks quick and easy when you follow the instructional video posted on Exped’s site, taking just a few rolls. Let the pump bag fill with air, roll the bag’s top shut, then proceed to roll the air out of the bag and into the pad. To inflate the pad, make sure the deflation valve is closed then couple the pump bag to the pad’s inflation valve. ![]() It has two valves: a unidirectional inflation and a bi-directional deflation valve. The five-inch-thick insulated Synmat 12 LXW pad is as cush as it gets in Exped’s line. The quilt comes attached to the fitted top sheet already wrapped around the pad. ![]() To set up the bed, you unwrap the pump bag and pull out the mat and quilt and then unfurl the system. Inside, the quilt and mat are wrapped tight with a velcro strap. Waterproof Storage Sack The DeepSleep includes the mat, quilt and top sheet - all roll in the pump bag Granted, buying individual items helps spread the dent in your wallet over time. But if you find yourself tossing and turning for good sleep on family camping trips, this kit is worth a look. A similar down quilt can run another $250 – 300. An insulated pad from a competitor ( Sea to Summit or Thermarest) will set you back between $150 – 200. But when you break it down, it’s not that unruly. But once ready, you can leave it intact between trips.Īt $500, this system is a significant upfront investment. Regarding the price, the pad is expensive, but this is a quality product from a renown brand, and it comes with excellent warranty conditions. The DeepSleep is indeed a system, and it requires some time to set it up right. The packed size is also such that you need a car for transportation. Regarding the weight, the pad is quite heavy, you will see the numbers for both options below. Its temperature rating is simply impressive so you will will be protected from the cold ground in any case, no matter how and where you use it. I already mentioned its thickness, the number 7.5 in the official name is related to it. But the LW version is both long and wide enough for two adults. I must say that what they call the medium size is quite small and narrow and I do not see it as a pad for two people at all. Regarding the size, as mentioned above you have them in two sizes. Who is this Exped DeepSleep Mat 7.5 Duo for There are straps included to keep it rolled, see the picture below. To deflate, open the one-way deflation valve and compress the pad with your body. When you unfold the pad and open the valves, it will inflate by itself. On their site they claim this is the official ASTM F3340-18 rating, so it should be reliable. This is where the pad shines, its temperature rating is -50.8 ☏ (-46 C). The insulation is an open-cell PU foam, 16 kg/m² and Oekotex 100 certified. The bottom is a stronger 75D polyester with the same other features. It is also hydrolysis resistant, honeycomb embossed, and Oeko-Tex 100 certified. You will want to know that this is a quiet material. The top shell fabric is quite durable 75D micro brushed polyester with a TPU polyether film laminate.
